The first 7 symposia that started in 2001, were hosted by the Physics of Conjugated Organic Material and Superconductor research group, which then transformed into the Physics of Magnetism and Photonics Research Division, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Institut Teknologi Bandung.

With the formation of the Indonesian Optical Society (InOS) in late 2010, starting from the 8th International Symposium on Modern Optics and Its Applications in 2011, the symposium were hosted by InOS.
